Stephen Ministry . . . What is it?

Stephen Ministry is...

a program of Redeemer congregation that equips lay people to provide distinctively Christian one-to-one care to those who are experiencing all kinds of life needs and circumstances, both within our own congregation and in the community.

Stephen Ministers are committed Christian people who...

~ express God’s care through their lives to others;
~ receive 50 hours of initial training in important caring skills;
~ visit another person regularly and dependably and offer Christian care and support;
~ participate in regular support and supervision under the guidance of trained
Stephen Leaders;
~ are committed to preserving the confidential nature of the caring relationship;
~ receive continuing education and skill building throughout their years of service.
~ listen and care with unbiased love;

Stephen Ministry is...meeting the needs of people

There are times when each one of us needs the caring of another person; a Christian friend, a Stephen Minister. Times of need may include but are not limited to any of these situations:

~ hospitalization
~ terminal illness; yours or a family member or friend
~ grieving; a death, a loss
~ dealing with fears
~ a new baby
~ job loss
~ dealing with disabilities
~ separation or divorce
~ worry about aging and its effect on lifestyle
~ moving
~ changing jobs
~ coping with mood disorders
~ spiritual crisis
~ coping with empty nest syndrome
~ anytime that you feel unusual stress or anxiety

Stephen Ministry is...caring for the community

This is intentional caring for anyone in need. Redeemer Lutheran Church is not just a building, but a family oriented, caring community within this community. Our purpose is not complete without you in it!

We are here to help, as well as to share God’s love through the Word and action! Our Stephen Ministry allows us to show that love in a tangible, believable way. If you have a need or concern and are hesitant to discuss it with “just anyone,” chose a Stephen minister.

Stephen Ministry is a confidential ministry where those receiving care can be sure that their identity and whatever happens in the caring relationship will remain private. Your privacy is a sacred trust! Stephen Ministers are trained to listen with a discerning ear and a silent tongue and they are there for you as long as there is a need.
