This is one of the most important ministries a layman can become involved in within the church. Elders focus on compassionate care and the spiritual welfare of every member of the congregation. When members are cared for by these men, the health of the congregation strengthens and relationships grow with each other and with Christ. Christ's love for us is reflected and modeled by this group in prayer life, care for others, concern for the spiritual growth and well-being of Redeemer's members, and supporting the pastor in the care of the congregation, as well as in his personal growth and spiritual health.
The Elders assist the pastor in "shepherding the flock", through prayer, visitations with congregational members in crisis, assisting with communion distribution, and supporting and encouraging the pastor in his own spiritual growth and congregational responsibilities.
