I Know Not Which to Choose

First Sunday after Christmas: Old Testament, Isaiah 61:10-62:3

Isaiah 61:10-62:3

Such difficulty following Christmas. The title of our meditation today is a confession from me. The statement Isaiah makes at the beginning of the reading is glorious. And the flourish of his closing is equally beautiful. Rather than bearing up under my thoughts today I am going to direct you to read and savor this text. Read it slowly, even to the forming of the words in the hearing of your ears. As dear old Dr. Mitchell used to counsel us at the seminary, “When you read the Bible read it audibly, so your mind hears your mouth forming the words.” Now I don’t always do that, but this is one of those passages that will bless you immensely if you do.

This week, following the bustle, though at the very beginning of the actual Christmas holy days, enjoy this Word of the Lord spoken to and for you.

Merry Christmas!
