The Word from a Man in White

Easter Sunday: Gospel, Mark 16:1-8

Mark 16:1-8

Early Sunday. The morning after Sabbath. And it’s time to get to work. Love-work. Several ladies who had followed the Savior in His ministry go to the garden tomb to anoint His body. They are startled to see the grave opened and a man in a white robe seated on the right. His word to them is the Word of God for them. Aren’t you glad it seems to always be that way? His Word to us is for us. And that doesn’t mean it’s always easy to hear. But here in this text? How magnificent it is.

“Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you” (Mark 16:6-7).

Did you catch the last phrase? “Just as He told you.” It’s a reminder from the man in white that all that has transpired is according to plan. The grave is a weak prison and its bounds have been forever broken. God be praised!

He is Risen!

                      He is Risen, indeed!

                                                          Alleluia!
